Un”conventional” Medicine

It’s been a long time since I’ve written down chicken scratches on a pad by my bed. Last night I “woke up” several times with snippets of dreams, but I couldn’t pull myself out from behind the veil of sleep to actually write them down.

My issue is compounded by the fact that I’m not even interpreting these notes until 16 hours later, so… this dream will leave a little to be desired.

The notes I can read are:

Convention

copy room

permission (or maybe parmesan)

Pills to share

EO

readouts

Chased

I remember being at a work convention with my boss Elizabeth. It was very stressful and I feel like I wasn’t prepared to complete the readouts. I was looking for a copier or a printer, and I was running through the halls and couldn’t find one to use. I felt like it had been set up in a temporary room and that it had moved. I was very worried about being late.

At one point I was talking with EO (maybe we were back in our hotel room?) and I was trying to take pills. There were some tiny ones in the bottom of the pill bottle, plus other larger ones. Some of them had turned to dust, and so it was really hard to find the little ones, as they were blending in with the dust. When I tried to get them out I made a mess.

A New Sherrif in Town

It’s been a while since I have remembered a dream in great detail. Last night, the dream started out in a yard. Buster was chasing deer but this time it was a herd of tiny deer (babies about the size of cats with one momma deer.) By the time I realized they were so small and might not be able to get out of his way, it was too late. I ran over and one deer was so tiny it got on my finger. But instead of hurting them, he played with them and they became friends. I was afraid to touch the tiny one for fear the mother would reject it (much like a baby bird.)

Then the dream shifted. I was in a work trip to the Philippines with a group of people. Me, Daphnie’s friend Marie and one other person- a guy that reminded me of my old friend Doug and the capital campaign consultant Jesse-  were staying in the Shangri La but Marie had found rates for $120 per night. Rather than being in the main part of the hotel though, we were in a section off the garage. You walked out the door like you were going to the parking garage but instead of going straight out one door, you turned to the right. You walk past a big black desk that belonged to Ramon (from Honduras) and there were rooms. They were light and airy and were set up to be multiple bedrooms surrounding a central common area. There was also an outdoor living area. The only problem I was having was getting the phone to work. I was trying to connect an old manual phone to wifi to call home for free. As I was working on that, they wanted to switch hotels for the next week but I was concerned about the extra cost. I suggested we just try to move into he main part of this hotel. Then I walked out into a mall area, and I was sitting on a bench talking to my old colleague Dave. We had a dog and a tiny puppy that fit on the palm of my hand. Dave was supposed to be taking care of the puppy but he wasn’t paying attention to it. I was worried it would die. It had wandered behind the bench and gotten wet. I picked it up and tried to dry it off and warm it up. Then Dave said he was starting a new call center in New Orleans. I said confratulations and he told me he wanted me to come work there and move from Atlanta. I told him I was flattered but that I didn’t live in Atlanta any more. I explained my kids were going to be seniors in high school so I couldn’t leave and he said that if I was interested after that it would be perfect timing because it would take that long for him to get there and be ready for me. Then we saw Elizabeth and our other colleagues walk by. They were dressed in old west attire. I asked what they were doing and he said it was an excursion. I was upset because I didn’t know about it and he said the other guy rooming with us had sent out a full agenda. I was not pleased I didn’t get one, but he said I could take his spot. He was supposed to be the sherif. I put a leash on the big dog. He was pretty good about staying with us, but I wanted to be sure he was safe. I wrapped the little dog in a blanket.  I ran to catch up and Alison was there, my old friend from high school. I put the sherif stars on my chest and she said “thank God you’re here”- apparently it had been challenging with more disruptions since there was no one playing the part of sherif. We started running, and just barely made it to a train that was about to leave. We had to open the doors on the moving train and jump on. It we made it, and I remember thinking this was harder than I thought. Then I woke up.

Interpretation: I believe that this dream was a clear answer to a prayer. I was asked to do something at the church that I was hesitant to do. I had told the person who asked me – almost word for word – the answer that I gave Dave about this job. I also had talked to Ben about the request at the church, and he suggested that a better time would be in a few years. That aligned with what Dave told me that “he wasn’t ready yet anyway.” I think the part of the dream about the sheriff/ old west was telling me that when it was time to do this job, it would be a lot more work than what I expected.

I have not yet figured out what the miniature animals represent. 🙂

Escalations

I had several dreams that I only remember snippets of. In one, I was shopping at JCPenny and accidentally went outside with a basket of merchandise. My intention was not to steal it but I could have. I went back in downstairs and to a customer service line. Everyone was freaking out and there were lockdown procedures and I said they were caused by me.

In a later dream I was meeting with Elizabeth and we were trying to update escalation lists. Someone was late for our meeting but we were working on it anyway.

We were talking and suddenly heard lots of people lauding as though there was a party. Alex and Dylan were where we could see them- one in the kitchen and one asleep in the living room so we assumed Austin was having a party.

Work’s a Bear

I was working for Elizabeth but we were working with bears.  It was a very frustrating time at work, although I can’t remember the details.  I was very tired and there were lots of problems to overcome.  I feel like we kept making plans then changing them again.  Then one day she called a meeting and there were new plans.  We were going to make a bear research center in the middle of our office complex.  I was concerned and asking questions about the ratio of bears to land, and Elizabeth assured me that the ratio was exactly the same – so if there were two bears to every square mile in the wild, there would be two bears to every square mile in the research area.  I wasn’t sure I believed her.  The bear research area would be fully glassed in with observation points throughout. I was ultimately relieved with this outcome and felt that things were going to be better at work after this.

Extreme Geocaching

Last night, my dreams were filled with various forms of geocaching.  It started with a very extreme geocaching  – we were in a school of some sort.  It was dark, and there was security trying to keep us out.  I took off my shoes so I could move around more quietly.  I don’t remember finding the geocache but I also don’t think the security guard caught me.

Then we were out in the ocean, and someone in a wet suit climbed up on a giant ladder (like a fire ladder).  They planted the geocache up high.  I was looking around to try to tell any identifying surroundings.  Again, it was dark, but I could see trees along the outside, and several dark buildings.

Then I went to Elizabeth’s house, and she was doing it online as part of a game.  There were two games – one was star wars related, and you collected different types of gems.  They would combine and make better gems, spinning and making unique sounds.  I thought that was too complicated.  Then we started talking about the online geocaching game.  Parts of it were on the computer and parts of it were live.  Her oldest stepson came in for a little while but didn’t stay.  Then her youngest daughter Sophia came in.  I tried to talk to her but she was pretty shy.  I told her that I thought that the game was hard.  Elizabeth showed me some tips and tricks.  She played with a  different circle of people.

Then I went to a party where everyone was playing.  The only person that I knew there that I saw was my old high school boyfriend David.  I was sitting down with him in the same chair, and he was helping me. There were people milling around and they would occasionally chime in with answers or feedback.  At one point, a girl (woman?) said that I needed to introduce them to Hannah and Dylan because they could in turn introduce them to an advance group.  (They called the group by name.)  I realized I didn’t remember their online names.  I struggled to try to figure out how to introduce the two separate groups of gamers.  A young man walked by and introduced himself as a leader (would have been called a ‘wizard’ back in the days of mucks.)  He said he was known by several names, and one of them had “no” in it.  Then I found a cache with money and a gift card in it.  Someone said that it was replenished regularly to give new players hope.  I was in the process of trying to log everything and count the money when I woke up.

A few initial thoughts on this one.  The first part of the dream in the school – I think that I’m still trying to work through what people think of me.  Taking off my shoes was me changing my persona to try to “hide” this part of myself.  When I did that, while I didn’t get caught, I also did not find the prize.

A ladder is meant to represent getting nearer to God (much like Jacob’s ladder.)  This part was pretty clear that there is a  big prize if I’m brave enough to brave the rough waters and the dark.

Then it transitioned from school to work, and Elizabeth was trying to help me, but it was in a “family” environment.

Karen told me that parties represent the “heavenly” party – a way to get closer to God, and this part of the dream was about making connections.  I found the biggest prize yet, and there were people all around me trying to help me.

I think this whole thing points back to embracing this new, more spiritual part of my life and know that there are people all over who relate.  The prize will be great.

Expensive Problem Solving

My dreams this morning ran together, so I’m not sure where one stopped and the next started.  My apologies for a bit of a ramble!

It started with some sort of a ghost story at the Chapel.  I wrote down:

Stupid fake ghost story.

Broke the Internet. Had to take down.

Church window?

Then, it became a work dream.  I was trying to figure out a problem, and suddenly I was in a plane flying.  I think I was the pilot.  I was flying higher and higher, and was among clouds, then suddenly I broke through and I was high – flying fast – and I could see all the stars.  They were big, and bright and beautiful!  They were normal stars (not like the stars in my “first” dream) but they were breathtaking, nonetheless.  I can’t really read my writing at the bottom of the page – something about seeing the stars, or perhaps see 13 stars???  The flying was amazing though.

Then later, I was at work, and Elizabeth called me.  She asked, “How much do you think it costs to fly the plane?”  I didn’t know, and she said it costs $11,000, and I had to find a way to pay her back for flying it.  I thought to myself that it was very much worth the $11K.  About that time, I was paid an $8,000 bonus, and then Scott W. nominated me for an award that was going to pay $2,000.  So I thought to myself, “That’s not too bad – I only have to come up with $1,000.”
